COLEUS HYBRID

All I can say is that you need to check out our Coleus Galleries and Coleus offerings. More botanically correct is the name Solenostemon scuttilarioides for this group of plants, but for so many years the name Coleus has been used that we keep this name for the common usage. They have been bred over the years into so many shapes and colors that they have become a rage among the home gardener. Years ago they were primarily used as shade plants. The cultivars and hybrids now grown by the home gardener can be used as sun or shade plants. Many of the newer hybrids are great in the sunny border. We know of various collectors who like to gather as many varieties as they can for home, garden or greenhouse. Culturally, there are two main groups for growth, the bush types and the viners. Most of the varieties we offer are from types that bloom late and tend to be more lasting plants. These plants are always done from cuttings so that the plant you get is identical in color and shape to the mother plant. It is best to cut most flower spikes off during the main growing season to improve color and shape of the plant.
