DORSTENIA YAMBUYENSIS

The group of plants in the Dorstenia genus are great for indoor growing. Many are small and bloom all the time. You have to like the flower though. It is really a group of flowers placed together in a structure called a hypanthodium. This cluster of flowers gives it the name "Shield Flower." Our most popular and easy to grow species are Dorstenia contrajerva and Dorstenia turnerifolia. Dorstenia carnulosa is also quite popular because of the small caudex that it forms and its everblooming habit. The plant pictured above is probably Dorstenia yambuyensis which is difficult to grow. We do not have it in stock right now, but the picture gives you a good idea of the type of flower seen on all the species that we offer.
