40319 GARDENIA CORNUTA RUB HP CGH $ 6.00"Natal Gardenia" glossy narrow crimped leaves; fragrant spicy "Pinwheel" blossoms irregularly produced. Same odd angular boxy habit of G. thumbergii, but a different flower scent and odd orange fruit. Used for bonsai in Asia.
54115 GARDENIA [TABERNAEMONTANA] DIVARICATA [HORT] VARIEGATA APO TGH $ 25.00 Considered a selection of the "Paper Gardenia" with handsome leathery paired leaves brilliantly bordered in ivory white. While the nomenclature ( this may be an Ervatamia species) is poor, the shrub is stunning both in foliage and fragrant blossoms.

40320 GARDENIA JASMINOIDES [AUGUSTA] MYSTERY RUB CGH HP $ 5.25 Double white large fragrant fls; florist's favorite, thus the "Corsage Grandiflora" growing to be a stout shrub with rich glossy green quilted foliage. Asian herb for perfume oils; for also treating colds & coughs! If located in a low humidity situation the flower buds will drop before opening; in fact, any major change in location while in bud can result in the blossoms aborting so find a cool very bright spot and LEAVE it there.

40321 GARDENIA JASMINOIDES RADICANS FLOREPLENO RUB HP CGH $ 5.00 "Dwarf Gardenia" Low shrub with tidy glossy dark green lvs paired on much-branched stems to beautifully frame lovely fragrant double white blooms; unlike florist types, this produces a few fls at a time, but throughout the year. Easy as a windowsill potplant; excellent as a low statured bonsai subject developing excellent bark and maintaining petite blackish green foliage, both important characteristics for such an undertaking.

42004 GARDENIA JASMINOIDES RADICANS MARGINED RUB HP CGH $ 12.00 Marvelous "Margined Mini Gardenia" Low petite shrub, which prefers a cool winter location, aflutter with small narrow waxy lvs, each boldly bordered waxy ivory white; lovely hauntingly fragrant white rose shaped blossoms. If grown indoors, we suggest you place on a pebble tray to maintain constant humidity levels. A seriously beautiful plant.

58357 GARDENIA JASMINOIDES (AUGUSTA) VARIEGATED RUB CGH $ 22.00 Very striking"Margined Gardenia" with broad glossy leaves margined a rich ivory yellow fading to white on woody upright stem presenting quite fragrant single white blossom. This is much prized by collectors--bright light and good humidity.

41817 GARDENIA JASMINOIDES (AUGUSTA) KLEIM'S HARDY RUB CGH HH $ 8.00 Cultivar of "Cape Jasmine" selected for tolerance of cooler winters than the species. Quite prolific blooming with many fragrant single flowers reaching a peak in early summer.

80010 GLECOMA HEDERACEA VARIEGATA LAB HH CGH $ 3.75 "Gill-Over-the-Ground" Small creeping mint with fuzzy kidney shaped lvs & tiny fls; this clone of "Ground Ivy" or "Alehoof has bright white margins on each lf. Can be invasive; do NOT allow reversions to proliferate. Also popular in hanging baskets and windowboxes for its dramatic cascading abilities.

53057 GLOBBA WINITTI ZIN HP TGH $ 4.50 Available after May 15 for shipping. A seasonal "Thai Ginger" with soft green foliage & dramatic nodding yellow tubular fls with orange tips, emerging from fuchsia violet bracts. Extended winter dormancy--best leave tubers in pot during this period rather than storing dry.

20494 GLOXINIA ARION [HYB] GES HP TGH $ 6.25 Stout rosy magenta stems with G. perennis type foliage topped by wide slipper flowers flaring into a bell of rich magenta with spotted throat, somewhat fragrant. Batcheller hybrid. Dormancy cycles seem somewhat random over the years--constant warmth can nearly eliminate the cycle but may reduce the vigor of the plant.

20166 GLOXINIA SYLVATICA GES HP TGH $ 3.00 Formerly Seemannia latifolia. "Christmas Slippers" This is a select evergreen clone with narrow felted dark leaves closely ranked, covering the stiff cascading stems; topped with many red-orange slim guppy-mouthed blossoms during the winter months. Excellent houseplant; even when not in bloom the attractive foliage is evergreen and attractive all seasons.

53391 GMELINA PARROT'S BEAK [HYSTRIX] VER TGG $ 6.75Woody stems with small attractively lobed leaves and terminal pendulous racemes of showy overlapping bracts and yellowish blossoms. Excellent container plant; try as a tropical bosai. A Genus from India on through the Philippines. Availability can be spotty--best to check before ordering as we do not like to send this out dormant.

30730 GONATOPUS BOIVINII ARAC TGH $ 18.00 Large Central American species producing a large tuber from which arises an impressive thick snakeskin colored stalk, with a distinctive central pulvinus (movable joint), topped with three branched foliage; tall showy white-cream flowers. Typically summer dormant in our experience, thus the opposite cycle to its Asian cousins the Amorphophallus species.

50023 GRAPTOPHYLLUM PICTUM ACAN TGH HP $ 5.00 "Caricature Plant" Elegant polished purpled-green leaves with pink and creamy-white centers; interesting small crimson flowers in delicate sprays. Newly popular along with its Pseuderanthemum kith & kin as an outdoor summer container subject; yet far more sensitive to chill.

50026 GRAPTOPHYLLUM PICTUM WAIMEA ACAN TGH HP $5.00 Cultivar of "Caricature Plant" with shocking pink midrib; while traditionally a dramatic foliar subject for hobby greenhouse or the indoor plant room, now a new star in outdoor urns as container gardeners become more daring in their designs. Sensitive to chill--but does easily resprout foliage if not actually frozen. This seems to be regularly renamed by southern nurseries.

54084 GREVILLEA ROBUSTA PRO HP CGH $ 5.50Reliable "Silky Oak Tree" from Queensland a popular ferny leaved potplant; when planted outdoors in Z10 or warmer can become a small tree with orange flowers. Japanese train as bonsai, "Kinu-kashi" as easily trained.

50027 GYMNOSTACHYUM CEYLANICUM ACAN TERR TGH $ 6.25 "Ceylon Plant" Choice miniature of low habit with dark green laquered leaves pewter veined and ribbed white. A treasure from Shri Lanka considerably smaller than its Latin name.

40325 GYNURA AURANTIACA COMP CGH $ 6.25 AVAILABILITY MAY BE LIMITED "Velvet Plant" Erect thick somewhat succulent stems (seldom branching, thus solitary) studded with large soft leaves with rich purple plush hairs if given very bright light; thus called also the "Purple Passion Tree." Resents summer heat; yet also intolerant of winter chill; thus, best grown in a warm winter greenhouse/conservatory situation. Definitely not a houseplant nor an outstanding (predictable?) patio subject like the other species--but so unique we feel we do need to offer it to collectors who appreciate a good challenge. Not for the easily exhasperated grower. The upright stems may topple with time or with sheer lack of backbone, so best to stake early on. The species name gives a firm clue as to the rayed flowers' hue.

40326 GYNURA BICOLOR COMP HP CGH $ 4.25 Prostrate stems with deep velour lvs, purple beneath, from swollen root surface; Underated species from the Molluccas excellent in wintertime greenhouse baskets; equally at home cascading from windowboxes or urns in your summertime outdoor plantings. As eager and willing to grow and impress as aurantiaca is willing to disappoint! Too many extra trimmings or cuttings? Don't toss as herbalists consider this species to be a good source of vitamens and "other" nutrients.

40327 GYNURA SARMENTOSA [HORT] COMP HP CGH $ 3.50 "Purple Passion Vine" Succulent jagged leaves carpeted with rich purple hair on gracefully arching or (if given a mossed pole) clambering stems; All the sarmentosas need full sun to perform well..

40328 GYNURA SARMENTOSA AUREO-VARIEGATA COMP HP CGH $ 8.50 The "Variegated Purple Passion Vine" sports leaves richly splashed with cream and yellow: best color in cool conditions. Be sure this is given full sun.

56571 GYNURA SARMENTOSA PINK ICE COMP CGH $8.25 The marginal variegation of this "Purple Passion" selection emerges a glaucous pink in bright cool locations, hardening to a paler cream than the similar clone known as 'aureo-variegata.' Limited during warmer part of the year as is difficult to produce then. One of the more dramatic variegated vines for its favorite site, the hobby greenhouse. Absolutely not a houseplant (although several customers with grolites report considerable success). Needs bright light, reliable moisture (but avoid foliar humidity unless you provide good air circulation), and perfect drainage--a perfect test of your skills as a gardener.

51045 HABRANTHUS ROBUSTUS RUSSEL MANNING AMARYL CGH HP $ 5.50 Select small evergreen bulb, a close cousin of the more familiar "Agentine Rain Lily" with clear magenta petals fading to a delicate lilac-purple. Now considered H. estensis by some. Evergreen waxy strap foliage is evergreen when situated in the conservatory/greenhouse; best to bind the succulent roots in a shallow pot to encourage heavy bloom production; needs full sun.

51046 HAEMANTHUS ALBIFLOS AMARY HP CGH $ 20.00 "White Paint Brush" Wide fleshy evergreen ranked lvs form compact clusters above which short stems present white blossoms with powder puff explosions of stamens; even when not blooming the evergreen richly hued strapleaves make this a most handsome bulb. Likes porus well drained soil with adequate moisture and bright light; do not bury the bulb.

51255 HAEMANTHUS DEFORMIS AMARYL CGH HP $ 28.00 Rare species with pelted disticious paddle leaves. Flowers not seen. Extremely wide disticuous leaves. From the distinctive collection of Randy Bennett.

40329 HAEMARIA DISCOLOR DAWSONIANA ORC HP TERR $ 8.50 "Jewel Orchid" Black lvs veined in coral; fragrant cream mini-orchid fls with pinkish bracts. Best in humid terrarium environments, yet we have observed beautiful old specimens grown on indoor windowsills and splendidly colored, heavily bloomed specimens grown under artifical lights. Also called Ludisia discolor in the older plantbooks.

40330 HAEMARIA DISCOLOR NIGRESCENS ORC HP TER TGH $ 15.00 The ebony leaf "Jewel Orchid"--pale scarlet midrib on black or very dark leaves. A special clone of the standard .

69008 HALLERIA LUCIDA SCR CGH $ 6.75 South African "Tree Fuchsia" in Snapdragon family--glossy deep green leaved low shrub with tubular orange fuchsia mimic blossoms over a long period, then edible black berries clustering along the stems. This popular "African Honeysuckle" is good in a cool window, is excellent for a cool greenhouse. And: seems to be passing with flying colors as a tropical bonsai subject with its reduced foliage and pseudo-woody stems.

40331 HAMELIA PATENS [ERECTA] RUB TGH HH $ 7.50"Scarlet Bush" clusters of red tubular flowers on woody shrub.

40333 HEBE SPECIOSA VARIEGATA [HYB] SCR CGH HP $ 6.25 Flower clusters a delicate lilac blue (on stubby stalks) with darker eye and stamens; ranked lvs margined in rich creamy white. Handsome shrub. For full sun in the subtropics; a cheerful conservatory tenant in northern climes.

Ivies (HEDERA) for the 2008 SEASON

The IVIES: Why not try an IVY COLLECTION by ordering Stock #99002 for a group of 5 including ruffled, variegated, bush, & maybe even an odd species for only $15.00--let us know if you intend to use them for urns, baskets, groundcover, topiary, bonsai, or windowsill pots so we can make appropriate selections.

If you want a particular cultivar, order it by its specific stock number as many in the above collection are not offered below. If you need a considerable number of a particular cultivar, please let us have sufficient lead time for preparing your order as we are known for the wide diversity of choices, not for the individual cultivar volume scale of liner farm production. We also include here those which are winter hardy here in our Z6b climate--the more reliable cultivars are so noted in their individual descriptions.

41151 HEDERA ALGERIENSIS [C~] GLOIRE DE MARENGO ARAL HP $ 6.50 Well-known white-margined "Algerian Ivy" with showy large statured foliage.

41149 HEDERA ALGERIENSIS [CANARIENSIS] MACULATA ARA HP TGH $ 4.25 "Milky Way [Algerian] Ivy" Large glossy leaves barely lobed and richly splotched and speckled with gold green and ochre-- lovely against the rosy toned stems. Beautiful groundcover in milder climates or dramatic in a large hanging basket or urn. Unsurpassed for subtle foliar beauty combined with ease of culture and thus used in topiary despite its very large leaves.

41153 HEDERA COLCHICA SULPHUR HEART ARAL HP CGH HH $ 6.75 A cultivar of this thickly-substanced "Persian Ivy," native from the Caucasus to Iran, with beautiful yellow ochre leaf centers turning saffron during cool winters as the green borders become a chocolate purple tone; spicy aromatic foliage. Known in England as 'Paddy's Pride'. Hardy outdoors here if given a very sheltered location--but even in Z6b here lvs burn simply because of their sheer surface size.

88896 HEDERA HELIX ANITA $4.75 An abbreviated birdsfoot ivy. Develops an amethyst chocolate tone if in winter chill. A natural for terrariums and mossed topiary.

54348 HEDERA HELIX ASTERISK ARAL HH CGH $ 4.50 Excellent viner with elaborate lvs divided into five or seven narrow recurved lobes to resemble an asterisk symbol.

54076 HEDERA HELIX BETTINA ARAL HP CGH HH$ 5.00 New for Glasshouse Works 2008.Very handsome compact Ivy with fluted triangularly lobed leaves of soft green & taupe with bright white margins.

58312 HEDERA HELIX BIG SHOT ARAL CGH HH $ 6.50 Woody stems ranked with wide leathery elongated (and barely lobed) leaves dramatically mottled and splattered with white and bleached wheat variegation, gradually darkening to a somber John Deere green as ages. A big boned ivy with visual impact.

41994 HEDERA HELIX BRAZIL ARAL HP CGH HH$ 4.00 Very bright "English Ivy" discovered in Brazil's Rio plant markets by G. Johnson: glaucous green lvs variously lobed, unlobed, trilobed with irregular ashy cream splotches and raised veins. Variegated but not necessarily margined! Tolerates heat.

41159 HEDERA HELIX BUTTERCUP ARAL HP HH CGH $ 5.75 "Golden English Ivy" Glossy new lvs a bright yellow, fading to a deep leathery green; foliage does not burn in our winter. Also known as `Golden Cloud' in Europe.

41232 HEDERA HELIX CALICO SELECTION ARAL HP CGH $ 4.75 Marvelous carpets of thick rounded richly-colored leaves of bright parchment white with deep green margins & random pale mint green flecks--very distinctive coloring pattern; quickly mounding habit; tolerates considerable exposure.

59279 HEDERA HELIX CHIMAERA ARAL HP TGH $ 4.00 Only sport we've seen with the combination of two distinct variegation types: the several toned gray & cream areas of 'Kolibri' types overlaid with dramatic white veins & overall fine speckling (like 'Fantasia'); varies from leaf to leaf.

41161 HEDERA HELIX CONGLOMERATA ARAL HP HH CGH $ 4.25 Undulating leathery, blackish green leaves clasp stiff, often contorted, upright stems; forms semi-erect bush with time. The wavy (heart-shaped at base) leathery leaves survive our winter unscathed if situated away from winter sun and wind.

41162 HEDERA HELIX CONGLOMERATA ERECTA ARAL HP CGH $ 5.00 Nearly triangular, dark green lvs deeply grooved; the unique three-cornered lvs are held rigidly in two ranks on stiff erect stems. Quite evergreen when used as a shrublet in Zone 6 like us. Certainly develops one of the most unique (very extreme decorator) vertical outlines of any Ivy, all the more dramatic due to the extremely dark toned very leathery foliage. A wonderful pot plant for that chill windowsill too cold for violets or begonias.

42020 HEDERA HELIX CURLY LOCKS ARAL HP TGH $ 4.00 Small lvs with rippled fluted lobes; closely packed in cute toppling columns--gives a very soft, very 3-D effect.

54050 HEDERA HELIX CYRANO DE BERGERAC ARAL HP HH HT $ 3.75 Dark large leaves with attractive veining and one very long "Nose" of a central lobe! Fast growing. This photo shows it scaling the side of a Dawn Redwood here at the nursery.

41882 HEDERA HELIX DESIGN ARAL CGH HP $ 4.25 Quite distinct, remarkably lovely "Frosted Ivy" with gently cascading stems cloaked with shallowly three-lobed leaves each with pale frosted center. A subtle beauty beautifully self-heading into perfect mounds.

41166 HEDERA HELIX DUCK FOOT ARAL HP CGH $ 4.00 Fantastic tiny mounds of miniature duckfoot-shaped leaves. Use as a tiny tuffet at the base of a bonsai; add to your terrarium, or encourage it over a mini-boulder in your rockery.

41212 HEDERA HELIX FILIGRAN ARAL HP CGH $ 6.50 "Filigree Ivy" Outrageously fluted, lobed foliage of dark glossy green--remarkable appearance. Very dark deeply cut foliage leathery enough not to winterburn here, surviving to cause a sensation in the rockery. Fantastic spilling out of a basket in your hobby greenhouse.

55550 HEDERA HELIX FINGER FROTH ARAL HP HH HT $ 5.00 Conspicuously veined down-curved fat pointed fingers are slightly furled on ascending stems. A sport of 'Filigran' so popular for its shrubby leathery nature and self-heading vigor that it deserved a name.

72788 HEDERA HELIX GLACIER ARA HH CGH $ 5.25 This selection (from the Mowrey collection) reaches an impressive size with pure white margins on variably shaped leaves. Possibly a sport of a sport.

41171 HEDERA HELIX GOLD BABY ARAL HP CGH $ 5.00 Beautiful chartreuse-gold variegated quite small leaves--with barely a distinct lobe--fading to a rich lime tone.Winter hardiness uncertain.

42074 HEDERA HELIX GOLD CHILD ARAL HP CGH HT $ 4.25 Soft sea green & avacado green mottled lvs with bright cream yellow margins; excellent habit, broad overlapping foliage-- the flat lvs larger and wider than other gold-edged cvs.

41173 HEDERA HELIX GOLD HEART ARAL HP CGH HH $ 5.25 Small black-green lvs centered yellow; this is an unusually winter tolerant variety, surviving in Michigan. Unlike most ivies, this ancient cultivar plods along up the wall without branching unless you pinch out the lead tip--thus more labor intensive than other winter hardy types; and thus never recommended as a ground cover. Usually is known in England as `Golden Jubilee.'

66851 HEDERA HELIX GUILDED HAWKE ARAL HH CGH $ 5.75 Deeply fingered, handsomely ruffled pale pewter green lvs with showy buttery margins hardening to rich ivory. Slow growing 'Manda's Crested' selection always worth its space in the collection; will burn in our type winter outdoors, yet the stems survive to resprout.

41176 HEDERA HELIX HARALD ARAL HP CGH $ 3.00 Large new leaves emerge nearly white; fading to a pattern, usually a wide creamy green margin, then dark hydroponic green with age. Often offered as `Harold.' Narrower leaves than `Anne Marie.'

41691 HEDERA HELIX HELENA ARAL HP CGH $4.00 (AIS) Deeply lobed leaves of slate green and gray richly margined in parchment white. Forms thick lacy mound--the narrow star shaped lobes, with prominent curved tip, create a feathery filigree effect.

55613 HEDERA HELIX HENRIETTE ARAL HH TERR HP $ 7.25 See 1995 Ivy Jorunal, Vol 21, pp 19. Heavily textured extremely small elongated leaves with irregular variegation. At first view does not seem to be an Ivy as the shingled frosted leaves are softly lobed, if lobed at all. Has proven to be quite winter hardy here in Ohio if situated out of winter sun combined with wind. A more perfect terrarium plant cannot be imagined.

49430 HEDERA HELIX HERMANIA ARAL HP CGH HH $ 6.50 Thin leaved and silver variegated "Ivy." Great indoor plant as well as hardy grower.

41183 HEDERA HELIX KOLIBRI ARAL HP CGH HH $ 4.75 Silver-white and slate-gray flecked with emerald enameled on compact leathery lvs--forming a thick richly textured carpet with remarkably beautiful color saturation. Beautiful "Hummingbird Ivy" noted for unusually strong contrast of dark flecks on snowy white & ochre mosaic leaves of very strong texture. Its popularity as never wavered.

41400 HEDERA HELIX LEMON SWIRL ARAL HP HT CGH $ 6.75 Lemon-yellow to white variegation on the new shallowly lobed curled lvs with curious diffuse vein patterns; color of the dense foliage fades as new lvs mature, thus giving a lovely two-tone effect. Unique tostled mound outdoors as well.

42115 HEDERA HELIX LITTLE DIAMOND ARAL CGH HH $ 6.25 Small-statured 'Kleiner Diamant' with diamond shaped gray splashed leaves with delicate white border. Very shrubby; a conversation piece small enough for the alpine house.

41187 HEDERA HELIX MANDA'S CRESTED ARAL HP HH $ 5.50 Large very curled, fluted lobes; fast, easy grower quite effective as a large hanging basket subject. A vigorous outdoor carpeter for us in Z6b

41402 HEDERA HELIX MISTY ARAL HP CGH $ 6.75 Wide sharply-toothed fan leaves streaked ivory and gray green. Very petite closely overlapping leaves; very slow-growing, flattopped mounded habit. Popular in terrariums.

54393 HEDERA HELIX NENA ARAL HH HT HP $ 4.75 "Variegated Fan Ivy" Wide barely lobed leaves of milky green marbling accented by bright raised veins and sharp white margins. Beautiful cascading habit.

54548 HEDERA HELIX SILVER DOLLAR ARAL HP CGH $ 4.75 Wide three-lobed lvs of pale gray green tones brushed nearly to the edges of the white margins; keeps contrast well.Strong growing cultivar.

41399 HEDERA HELIX SPETCHLEY ARAL HT CGH HP $ 5.00 "Gnome Ivy" Very tiny triangular round lobed arrowhead outlined leaves of blackish green thickly shingled on slim dark stems, maroon when young, heading in very straight lines, but branching at most nodes when in a brightly lit situation; very winter hardy selection from Spetchley Park in England. Extremely popular as even older established vines still maintain the very reduced foliage. Excellent on mossed topiary forms, newly popular in terrariums even though may not retain its deep color in this environment.
p>
41195 HEDERA HELIX SUNRISE ARAL HP CGH $ 5.75 Extremely thick leathery leaves with shallow lobes emerge a rich gold fading to dark green with ochre veins. Unusual form seldom self heading. For the collector.
42089 HEDERA HELIX TENERIFFE ARAL HP CGH $ 6.25 Small statured; small very wide barely lobed leathery leaves of rich green with two tones of marblized cream creating wide margins, pettered overall with dark green flecks. Slow growing, reluctantly branching "Marble Ivy" not surviving outdoors here. This can make a very nice houseplant especially if trained on a mossed wire wreath frame to display its intricate designs to most effect. When grown well, each leaf seems a different shard of a distant galaxy viewed through a mystic telescope. An unusual challenge.

41196 HEDERA HELIX TIGER EYES ARAL HP CGH $ 4.75 A golden-centered sport of `Plume d'Or' selected by Ken Frieling and introduced by the Glasshouse Works greenhouses. The deeply lobed, self-branching foliage makes this a full, handsome container subject; so far, a fair to good outdoor groundcover here in SE Ohio, burning only during severe cold spells without snowcover.

41860 HEDERA HELIX THORNDALE ARAL HT CGH $ 4.00 Lustrous large deep green leaves--popular outdoor groundcover. Best choice for our climate, maintaining a deep rich color all winter with very minor wind burn. Most vigorous.

41221 HEDERA HELIX TRIDENT [TRITON] ARAL HP CGH $ 4.75 Thickly veined elongated leaves with spear lobes--formerly offered as H. h. 'Monstrose'. The "Bamboo-leaved Ivy" as the conspicuous raised veins run parallel until they reach the tips of the long twisted lobes. Unique.

41401 HEDERA HELIX TUSSIE MUSSIE ARAL HP CGH $ 5.00 Pat Hammer's marvelous find: creamy white splotched and mottled sport of `Shamrock.' Similar to 'Chrysandra' but far more tostled, congested, and rumpled: how more Victorian can a plant be? More successfully presented as a mounding, rather than vining, highly variegated 3-D ivy,

54504 HEDERA HELIX WILLIE ARAL HP CGH $ 5.75 Girard Nursery's name for this sophisticated "Bonsai Ivy" with each deeply cut leathery leaf segment (typically 5) entwined short stems studded with foliaged spur growths. Very small tuffets develop--thus a terarium favorite as well.

66816 HEDERA HELIX YELLOW RIPPLE ARA HP CGH $ 4.50 Wide lvs with nearly equally long "eyelash" lobes beautifully margined in limes & yellows. Slow growing unusual cultivar easy as a pot plant subject, but quite dramatic when encouraged to cover a wall for the overlapping shingled leaves cause quite an optic dance with the variegated pinked edges initiating visual vibrations..

66732 HEDERA HELIX ZEBRA ARAL CGH HH $ 3.75 Stout stems hold thick textured glaucous green cupped leaves liberally streaked with cream. Although a bit reluctant to self-branch, still a dramatic cascading very variegated choice for a hanging basket indoors; furthermore, this dramatic heavily textured showoff has been quite winter tolerant outdoors for us for the last dozen years, being the only clone with this much white on the leaf surface not seriously affected by winter burn.

41403 HEDERA PASTUCHOVII ARAL CGH HH $ 7.00 Distinctive Ivy with beautiful black-green glossy elongate (often rather hastate) leaves. Hardiness untested here. Very popular with serious plant collectors. Native to limestone cliffs of the Caspian forests in Asia.

53023 HEDYCHIUM CORONARIUM ZIN TGH HP CGH $ 12.00 "Butterfly Ginger" Fragrant white flowers top very tall stalks. The heavily perfumed ivory petals are used in Hawaiian leis, hence, also known as the "Garland Flower." Evergreen species easy to grow with good light.

53132 HEDYCHIUM DR. MOY [BRUSHSTROKES] ZIN HH CGH $ 12.00 Hybrid of H. coccinea x cornarium with scented salmon orchid mimic flower clusters impressively tip this "Hyperwarp Ginger" tall stalks which are sheathed by white paint splashed coppery leaves; from Dr. Moy of San Antonio Botanic.Gardens. Once established, this tropical appearing ginger has proved winter hardy here with careful winter protection; better considered a stunning (and evergreen) container plant north of Zone 7 or lift and store the thick succulent tubers as you would Cannas. Lots of glamor for very little effort.

41410 HEDYCHIUM ELIZABETH [HYB] ZIN TGH CGH $ 6.00 Showy ginger with clusters of clear pink blossoms; needs to reach a considerable stature before producing the fragrant flowers.

53027 HEDYCHIUM [ORIENTAL] ENREI ZIN TGH CGH $ 18.00 Oriental hybrid originally received from plantsman Jack Craig outstanding with neat slim foliage topped with clusters of undulant white petals & spidery tufts on the intensely fragrant flowers. with the dark yellow centers; reaches considerable stature. The perfume can become almost overwhelming in a closed greenhouse. Swooning can occur.

53118 HEDYCHIUM FILIGREE ZIN CGH $15.00 Foliage more compact than most, topped with creammy thick blossoms with butterscotch hearts--like widespread Cattleyas; but must reach some considerable maturity before the flower production begins.

53030 HEDYCHIUM [ORIENTAL] SHIN-SEI ZIN TGH CGH $ 10.00 Oriental hybrid. "Shin"=new; "Sei"=green. Dramatic clusters of white and yellow blossoms. In limited production; best to inquire before ordering this giant creature originally sent to us by Jack Craig.

40336 HELICHRYSUM ICICLES COMP CGH HP $ 4.25 Clumps of narrow soft silvery-white curved leaves thickly crouded on the woody upright clustering stems; excellent in containers. While considered winter hardy in our Z6 here, many of our customers love to grow this as a showy winter greenhouse plant--it continues to be quite a popular addition to summertime urns and boxes.

53129HELICONIA ANGUSTA RED CHRISTMAS MUS TGH $ 10.00 Dark foliaged compact growing "Lobster Claw" with marvelous red & white flowers

54051 HELICONIA HUMILIS [STRICTA 'DWARF JAMAICAN'] MUS TGH HP $ 15.00 Short stalked clone of the "Dwarf Lobster Claw" with very thickly set wide showy foliage. As matures, will produce dramatic red bracts from which emerge white blossoms with green tips. Best one for indoor house culture as it remains more compact than the rest of the tribe and can even be flowered in a sunny plant room--grow on pebble tray.

88874 HELWINGIA CHINENSIS [NARROW LEAF] COR HH CGH $ 12.00 Lovely "Sichuan Leaf Flower" a graceful shrub with dark slim leaves so fused (with peduncles) to present the yellow flowers and then the purple fruit "on the leaf" (petiole fused to the peduncle). Used as a salad green in Japane. Zone 7. We have now propagated our stock plants because several of our customers asked why in the Helwingia we didn't already offer this quite beautiful botanical oddity.

HIBISCUS CULTIVARS for the 2008 SEASON

The HIBISCUS: This wonderful group of plants offers great flowers and in some cases beautiful foliage. Flowers can often be large and everblooming--especially the new hybrids from the Duponts, the "Ragin' Cajun Color" which produce large ruffly blossoms on their own roots--not grafted as with some of the giant Florida hybrids. We never have enough of any one color to list on this website, but can send one in a group, so:

Why not try a HIBISCUS COLLECTION by ordering Stock #99001 for a group of 5 species & hybrids (usually double, single, & pagoda types), in their various colors & flowering seasons. 5 plants @ $25.00

(For hardy perennial mallow types and for shrubby winter tolerant types such as the ever popular "Rose of Sharons", please see our listing of Hibiscus in the HARDY PLANT section on this website--we offer some truly outstanding ones.)
