PEPEROMIAS for the 2013 SEASON

PEPEROMIAS: Some are remarkable for spectacular leaf formations, waxy and variegated surfaces; others for clambering, clustering, and cascading. Remember: all Peperomias have shallow roots so use porus soil and decidedly shallow pots for success. If you suggest, we will send you a selection of types best suited for terrariums, dish gardens, or baskets and urns; or we will send an introductory cross section selection in our PEPEROMIA COLLECTION as Stock #99007 for 5 potted, labeled plants @ PRICE: $15.00.

53517 PEPEROMIA ACUMINATA VARIEGATA PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.75 Thick oval waxy leaves, with pointed edges, richly splashed creamy green and yellow ochre, set like pieces of jade on thick cascading stems thus perfect in hanging baskets; nonetheless, as these thick stems are even more scandent (rooting along the nodes as they climb) this is a wonderful plant to cover a mossed pole, rooting as it covers the moss, resulting in a shingling of beautifully variegated jade foliage. Durable constitution even though quite rare. Highly recommended as a houseplant.

53523 PEPEROMIA ARGYERIA NYBG CLONE PIP TGH HP PRICE: $ 12.00 Very large waxy blush-silver leaves with dark "crab-legs" veins not quite reaching the margins. From Bruce McAlpin. Very showy "Watermelon Peperomia" clone unfortunately also very sensitive to chill, but remarkably tolerant of low humidity. Somehow we have lost track of the old original form with the pale veins against a darker leaf (Does anyone out there still have the old original species form?) .

53532 PEPEROMIA BUNTINGII PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 8.00 "Blue Watermelon Peperomia". Bluish-emerald toned leaves richly veined and patterned, form thick whorls of compact mounds (but very slowly, very deliberately); although appearing delicate, the jade like succulent leaves can easily tolerate somewhat lower humidity than expected. We accept orders for this fabulous creature only on a propagate-to-order basis.

53533 PEPEROMIA CAMPYLOTROPA PIP TERR TGH PRICE: $ 4.75 "Emerald Isle" or "Brazil" Delightful tuffets of creamy wax pewter leaves with peltate dimples; stature of a tinsy griseo-argentea. Choice easily grown dwarf for the terrarium. And the rather hopeless name? Well, it means "Curved Ovule" allowing the micropyle to come quite near the funicle. We assume this is why other plants simply love to have it grow near them in the terrarium.

53538 PEPEROMIA CAPERATA ARGENTEA PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.00 Beautiful Brazilian "Silver Ripple" The waxed corrugated leaves solid silver-gray. "Caperata" means wrinkled or puckered. Bright toned cultivar of a favorite houseplant relaible self-shaping itself into a glossyy tuffet always prized for its ability to tolerate less humidity than many houseplants; thus it thrives on the windowsill as easily as in a terrarium.

54573 PEPEROMIA CAPERATA BURGUNDY PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.75 "Purple Pucker Plant" Deeply corrugated foliage with rich dusky purple tones. Very deliberately growing, gradually forming a chocolate hemisphere of closely packed puckered foliage topped, in time, with erect pale taper like catkins.

53537 PEPEROMIA CAPERATA MACULATA VARIEGATA SOL TGH CGH HP PRICE: $ 15.00 This is a decidedly spectacular form of the regular Peperomia caperata, the "Emerald Ripple Peperomia." The hemispherical tuffet of deeply corrugated waxy leaves is highlighted by the pale foliaged center as new leaves emerge nearly albino, only adding champagne tones as they mature finally into rich green. Very sought after.

53543 PEPEROMIA CLUSIIFOLIA [PERICATTII] PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.25 The dramatic "False Clusia." Thick purplish concave long leaves with purple margins held erect in two ranks by thick stems; the rubbery texture heightened by bright light. A well known West Indies native, yet this is a clone found by Robert Newman in Chinese cultivation. The obvious question: is this used in Chinese medicine?

53545 PEPEROMIA CLUSIIFOLIA JELLIE PRICE: $ 4.25 "Jellie Plant" Upright "False Clusia" leaves brilliantly bordered in wide ivory bands toned pink. This is not uncommon, but it is one of the most astounding variegated forms of the Peperomia group.

53544 PEPEROMIA CLUSIIFOLIA VARIEGATA [HORT] PIP HG TGH PRICE: $ 4.75 Horticultural designation of a P. obtusifolia type with gorgeous cream and yellow variegation (as pictured in Exotica.); this clone from the long gone Manda's Greenhouses tolerates low humidity if given bright indirect light and thus an excellent houseplant..

53554 PEPEROMIA CRASSICAULIS PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.25 "False Philodendron" Similar to distichia [scandens], but longer, waxy leaves with slightly downcurled thickish tips, and sporting slightly swollen purple-ringed leaf nodes which distinguish it from others; excellent reliable hanging basket subject. This clone which was shared with us by the Univeristy of Copenhagen Botanical Garden collection represents a Central American species believed to be extinct in its native habitat.

53618 PEPEROMIA DISTICHIA [SCANDENS] VARIEGATA PIP HP PRICE: $ 3.50 The heart leaved "False Philodendron" with bright ivory white margined waxy leaves on the fleshy cascading stem; a basic for hanging baskets. Very strong grower with a delicate appearance.

53616 PEPEROMIA DISTICHIA [SCANDENS] CRANE'S FLECKED GER HP CGH PRICE: $4.50 "Crazy Quilt Plant" Irregular patches of gray-green and soft ivory--a Ruth Crane selection we introduced years ago, yet is still rare in most collections. A wonderful unique cultivar with no two leaves ever matching--oddly this will occassionally sport to a stable 'medio-picta' form.

53558 PEPEROMIA DOLABRIFORMIS PIP HG TGH PRICE: $7.50 A fine addition to any collection. The "Prayer Peperomia" features thick fused windowed leaves sticking out from succulent stocky erect stems ending in long wand of tiny flowers. Lima-bean lime-colored leaves give a unique character to this Peruvian native. Succulent culture imperative: bright light, perfect drainage, reliable air movement.

53562PEPEROMIA FERREYRAE PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.00 "Pincushion Peperomia" Short thick succulent stems topped with many narrow trough-shaped leaves very nearly fused; the easiest succulent species to grow. How this relates ot iron (ferrea) we do not know, unless it was collected ner a railroad track. Much more dependable than the similar dolabriformis.

66976 PEPEROMIA FERREYRAE HYBRID [HORT] PIP TGH PRICE: $ 7.50 Stockier blunt ferreyrae with fused leaves on thick, succulent stems; perhaps a variation; perhaps a separate species? Prefers high light and air movement, but less fussy than some succulent types. Sometimes sent as an unrooted cutting.

53566 PEPEROMIA FRASERI [RESEDAEFOLIA] NANA PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.50 Miniature "Flowering Peperomia" clone with glossy jade like small leaves on clumping rosettes sprouting lovely erect spikes of fuzzy blossoms. A basic for any terrarium design. Formerly known as P. resedaefolia `Dwarf.'

53568 PEPEROMIA GALIOIDES PIP HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.25 "Pine Peperomia." or "Needle-leaf Wax Plant" Small erect branching stems with close whorls of four to six pale green needle leaflets--eventually looks like a succulent clustered mini-scale model for a Bamboo clump. Very odd habit for this genus. Several European pharmaceutical companies are researching the chemistry of this species as a source of new drugs.

53521 PEPEROMIA GARDNERIANA [CORDATA?] PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.25 The old horticultural designation of "Argentina" probably indicates habitat origin. Big bronzy-ochre leaves bushed with dull pewter highlights, held in open rosettes achieving the character of a giant P. caperata. Of easy culture, tolerant of low humidity

41707 PEPEROMIA GLABELLA PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.25 The reliable "Wax Privet Peperomia" with many-branched nodding stems studded by the bright green glossy fleshy foliage. Easy old favorite forming a cheerfully bright rumpled carpet of foliage brought back to our offerings by popular demand.

53576 PEPEROMIA GRISEO-ARGENTEA BEGONIA LEAF PIP HP PRICE: $ 4.00 Large 'Blackie' clone with overlapping upper lobes; old leaves fade to ashy-lemon to give an interesting two-tone contrast to the vigorous mounds. This Ruth Crane distribution may be the same plant known as 'Rosifolia' in Europe.

53712 PEPEROMIA GRISEO-ARGENTEA PINK MARBLE PEP HP TGH PRICE: $ 8.00 Distinctive form with the pewter toned leaves irregularly variegated with cream and pink. Difficult to grow. Needs bright indirect light and good air circulation to perform best with oustanding colors. With experience, we have found that this prima donna ships best anchored in dry perlite. Difficult to ship as is quite delicate.

53579 PEPEROMIA GRISEO-ARGENTEA WAVY GRAVY PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.75 Incurved ear shaped waxy leaves with deep blushed depressed veins highlighting the pewter toned ridges--leaves quickly forming tightly foliaged low hemispheres topped with cute erect tapered catkins. Easy houseplants.

53685 PEPEROMIA GUATAMALA SELBY 78-725 PIP TGH HP PRICE: $ 6.50 Heavy magenta blushed stems arch under large waxy rhombic foliage. As this grows very slowly, it is usually in very limited availability, so please inquire before ordering this in any quanity. An old established clump becomes a very impressive sight.

53584 PEPEROMIA HIRTA PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.00 Multi-branched erect stems with collars of downy leaves and tall inflorescenc; probably inter-specific with P. tetraphylla. Even though somewhat tall (by Peperomia standards), avoid the temptation to plant this in a deep pot; for like galioides, this has a very shallow stoloniferous root mass.

53585 PEPEROMIA HORACE ANDERSON [SPECIES] PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.50 Upright angled reddish jade leaves in whorls of three on toppling stems. This is a famous traditional variety (from the Hummel days) that has alway been know by the perhaps original collector's name. We do not know the species. Reliable when grown in orchid mixes, but slow and only developing the reddish mahogany rose tones if grown in very high light and starved of rich fertilizer. Sent as unrooted cuttings in moss. We can root and establish for you if we have time.

53586 PEPEROMIA INCANA PIP HP CGH PRICE: $ 5.00 "Felted Pepperface" Fabulous succulent leaves of gray felt (or "Amazon Fuzz") on upright fur-covered stems; easily grown Brazilian tolerating low humidity as long as grown in very bright light. Interesting also as a summer deck or patio subject as tolerates exposed conditions and adds texture and heft as well as a color tone heightening any brightly foliaged companion. Easily grown eyecandy.

53588 PEPEROMIA JAPONICA PIP HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.75 True miniature prostrate species from Okinawa & Ryukyu Islands. Short clustering upright stems hold whorls of very glossy wide leaflets--rarely found in the trade. California clone often offered as "japonica" is usually a puchella form.

53589 PEPEROMIA JUNGLE RED PIP HP CGH PRICE: $ 3.75 Cheerful red-stemmed tangles with whorls of fat succulents patterned button leaves, violet-red beneath in high light. Great miniature stoloniferous plant much employed by orchid hobbyists to carpet the barky bare surfaces as (altho of delicate appearance) tolerates and even seems to prefer bright light and variable humidity.

66880 PEPEROMIA KUANCA BANBA (SP. PERU) PRICE: $ 3.75 Upright stoutly succulent stem studded with multitudes of basil green slim leaves to resemble a petite bottlebrush, but soon self-branching into an impressive clump of rich foliage, which as soon as exposed to sun turns a rich violet cayenne color of some intensity. This undemanding unnamed native of Peru has proven to be a very reliable houseplant of considerable character currently enjoying a wave of popularity well earned. Newly popular for succulent dishgardens with its rosy purple to cayenne tones a visual treat.

53595 PEPEROMIA MARMORATA PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.00 "Silver Heart" Large silver highlighted, quilted leaves deeply veined a bright green radiate into upright loose rosettes--in a habit similar to the griseo-argentea cultivars but with leaf tips decidedly pointed. Popular in terrarium designs needing a bright accent. Affinity to the slightly more succulent and slower growing P. verschaffeltii'.

53596 PEPEROMIA MERIDANA GER HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.25 "Crazy Quilt Plant" "Pixie" or "Christmas Tree" Also sold as P. gardneriana minima; and even as a Peperomia fraseri hybrid. The sheer number of names suggests how popular this has been over the years. Cheerful upright reddish blshed stems covered with petite whorls of glossy depressed-veined rich green leaves packed so closely as to give a "shingled" effect. Easy.

53597 PEPEROMIA MERIDANA MACULATA PIP HP TGH PRICE: $5.00 A variegated "Pixie" beautifully splashed and slashed with cream and yellow--a Glasshouse Works selection from a sport that Ken Frieling discovered here. This lends a bit of vertical bling bling in any terrarium planting. We have trouble keeping up with demand, so please INQUIRE as to availability before ordering.

53600 PEPEROMIA MOONSET [SPECIES] PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.25 Ashy-lime underleaf; entire plant very felted, soft to touch like a "Mouse Ear"; Upfaced foliage topped by very erect "Mouse Tails" shaped inflorescence. A beautiful subject for light garden, probably a varient of P. moninii. Sent as mossed URCutting if none currently potted.

53602 PEPEROMIA OBTUSIFOLIA (SPECIES FORM) PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.50 The strong and bold original non-variegated form of this great house plant which lives through anything. It requires more than mere neglect to do this one in.

53603 PEPEROMIA OBTUSIFOLIA ALBA PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.75 New leaves strongly and dramatically emerge pure ivory, then gradually fade to pale lime, then glossy jade green; slightly reddish petioles. A Manda selection effective in lightgardens and striking in any greenhouse collection as well as a marvelous houseplant--quite unique yet easily grown; especially valuable as the albinism is strong even when grown in warm conditions--while typically hardy perennials and trees loose this sort of variegation in warm weather.

53607PEPEROMIA OBTUSIFOLIA GOLDEN GATE PIP HP PRICE: $ 4.00 Very wide fleshy leaf with slate green center surrounded by a flamed zone (a halo?) of rich cream-yellow and margined in deep green. Very flashy pot plant.

53609 PEPEROMIA OBTUSIFOLIA HICOLOR PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.00 Similar to the traditional 'Gold Tip' of Hummel, but this selection has rich golden and milky green variegation dramatically slashed throughout the entire leaf of jade like waxy succulent substance; the thick succulent stems gradually descend under the weight of the heavy highly colored leaves, thus an excellent subject for a hanging basket quite tolerant of less than ideal humidity levels..

43612 PEPEROMIA OBTUSIFOLIA SENSATION PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 18.00 Manda's introduction of a huge "Marble Peperomia" with large gold-slashed waxy leaves on reclining purpled stems. Some feel this is more likely a sport of P. magnoliifolia or of P. crassifolia as it very oversized to be an obtusifolia and the catkins sometimes branch. Very rare; very spectacular (probably even superbious), yet a potential houseplant because the thick waxy leaves tolerate bouts of poor humidity.

53629 PEPEROMIA ORBA PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 3.75 "Princess Astrid" Dwarf-statured with multiple crowns of waxy spoon like leaves--soon forming a charming waxy tuffet; easy tinsy houseplant with unknown origin-- the name "orba" meaning "orphan." A basic for your terrarium companions.

53631 PEPEROMIA ORBA VARIEGATA PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.50 "Variegated "Princess Astrid" Each small flat leaf edged in a rich ivory-yellow; short stems are dotted reddish-tan. A more perfect terrarium plant is hard to imagine.

A SET OF PEPEROMIA POLYBOTRYA WITH SOME VARIEGATED FORMS
Not available yet. From the collection of Tom Antill

53639 PEPEROMIA POLYBOTRYA [PERICATII] PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 6.00 "Coin-leaf P." or "Owl Eye Plant" Stout picturesque stems hold large cupped-shield-shaped, waxed peltate leaves typically with a center "eye"--that is, each leaf potentially forms with its own omphalodium. Andean species with racemes to one foot long covered with flowers so tiny the naked eye is defeated. Rather succulent in culture--be careful the soil is not compacted or root rot may occur.

53687 PEPEROMIA PUTEOLATA GRAY VEIN CLONE PIP HP PRICE: $7.50 A form of "Parallel Peperomia" with dramatic whorls of three stiff cardboard-like leaves with very bright gray-ash feuillemort toned depressed veins; habit more stiftly upright than some collections of this epiphytic South American. Slow growing; best given same epiphytic growing conditions as Rhipsalis. Usually sent as a mossed URCutting.

53648 PEPEROMIA REPII PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.50 "Purple Cloud Plant" Low, much-branched purple stems covered with glossy deep toned purple leaves with silver midrib flame; excellent indoor plant of rapid growth; perfect for small hanging baskets; a natural for terrariums. Ever so perfect.

53655 PEPEROMIA SILVER BANDIT [SPECIES UNIDENTIFIED] PRICE: $ 5.00 (Catch the pun?) Reclining upright stems hold elegant pebbled leaves with upcurled edges and bright central silver flames--this Andean species prefers a coolish location to display best colors with perfect drainage. Astoundingly beautiful..

53656 PEPEROMIA SILVER SHEEN [SPECIES] PIP HP CGH PRICE: $ 4.75 "Pewter Waxleaf Plant" Short arching (or scandent) succulent stems lined with thick leaves with a pewter-aluminum patina. Like acuminata, crassicaulis, and disticha this forms a beautiful moss pole specimen. Rare, yet easily grown species for small pots or baskets.

53658 PEPEROMIA TRAILING JADE [SPECIES] PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.00 Pairs of thick, blunt-edged jade leaves spaced like pendant beads on strong arching, then hanging stems, thus also called "Jade Cascade"; unique habit--best grown like a Rhipsalis. {Originally shiped as GHW #34} Peperomia pereskiaefolia form, perhaps. Sometimes sent as an URCutting in moss.

53667 PEPEROMIA VERSCHAFFELTII PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 12.50 "Sweetheart Peperomia." Deeply recurved, oval leaves with silver highlights between ochre veins; forms upright rosettes of overlapping, shingled leaves held by red-speckled petioles. Must have porus, perfectly drained potting mix or will easily rot.

53671 PEPEROMIA VIRIDIS VARIEGATA PIP HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.50 Zig-Zagging upright arched stems bear creamy-white margined thick semi-cupped leaves; very stong basket plant. Much slower growing than the more pendant disticha group; much more compact than the acuminata cultivars. We have never understood why such an attractive and easily maintained plant has not become basic to the nursery trade. Sometimes sent as mossed URCutting.

50049 PERISTROPHE HYSSOPIFOLIA AUREO-VARIEGATA. ACAN HP TGH PRICE: $7.25 Also P. angustifolia aureo-variegata. "Yellow Fellow" Narrow yellow-flamed leaves on mounding plants with delicate wands of tiny lavender flowers. "Java marbleleaf" excellent as a "filler" in mixed container designs to give a filigree feathery effect; can loose some of the yellow if in very hot conditions.

51079 PHAEDRANASSA CHLORACRA AMARY HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 Exposed glossy bulbs offset to form mounds topped by short waxy leaves and occassional shy white nodding trumpet flowers soon fading to a pale pink with faint green tips. Beautiful when treated as a foliage potplant. Remember, a chill or a severe drought cause a mini-dormancy, practiced by some growers who feel that the bulbs are more likely to produce their shy blossoms after re-emerging from such an "artificial" dormancy.

51080 PHAEDRANASSA DUBIA AMARYL HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 Short 8" gray strap leaves arched over surface bulbs; odd amaryllid flowers rimmed green. Perhaps best grown as a succulent. Of interest in spite of its most dubious name to all rare bulb collectors. (Translation: Perhaps of greater botanical than horticultural interest.)

Many will be chosen from our wide collection as well as from those offered below--if you want a specific hybrid or species, order them individually with their stock numbers, as the selections in the collections change from week to week and are NOT based on the following listed Philodendrons as new groups of species and hybrids are readied from time to timefrom our extensive private collections. 30293 PHILODENDRON ANDERSON'S RED ARAC HP PRICE: $ 5.00 Old hybrid heirloom originally from the great Ed Hummel, with some experts declaring this to have a P. tuxla parent, while others suggest this is more correct as P. erubescens 'Burgundy.' Whatever. This vigorous, time-proven very reliable self-branching stout vine is beautifully shingled with a multitude of rosy/purplish hued waxy thick spade-shaped leaves on stout scandent stems. Still popular for it makes a bold statement in less than ideal locations. Most dramatic when allowed to slowly climb, but equally beautiful in a hanging basket or individual container. Is it "red"? --not by current standards; but it was certainly more rosy toned than any thing else in the Philo tribe offered in the 1940s which was its heyday.

30294 PHILODENDRON ANDREANUM ARAC TGH PRICE: $ 45.00 "Black Gold" Elongated heart-shaped leaves of dark velvet with a lovely coppery sheen and delicate ivory veins. Probably same as P. melanochrysum. Thrives in high humidity and low light. This is one of the true beauties of the philodendron world. Not a houseplant unless grown in a wardian case.

30295 PHILODENDRON ANDREANUM X SODOROI [HYB] ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 45.00 Fantastic large velvety heart leaves with mottlings of pale snimmery emerald and grey pewter on billowed areas between depressed lime veins; blush underleaf; held on mahogany- purple stems. Remarkable hybrid, yet easily grown if sufficient humidity and perfect drainage is provided--thus more for the conservatory than for the house, yet several customers grow this very successfully on a mosspole in their plantrooms in their homes.

32113 PHILODENDRON AUTUMN [HYB] ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 11.50 Sometimes in short supply. "Copper Birdsnest Philo" Whorls of nearly succulent wide leaves toned orange, bronze, and russet red. Waxy succulent leaves insure your success with this hybrid as a gorgeously colored houseplant.

30629 PHILODENDRON BIPENNIFOLIUM GLAUCOUS ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $12.00 "Blue Fiddle-leaf Philo" The small-statured leaves are a waxy bluish-gray, closely spaced. Perhaps a fixed juvenile form. This has proven a handsome & reliable houseplant; if given a moss pole to slowy climb up will beautifully display a design of overlapping shingled foliage.

30299 PHILODENDRON BIPENNIFOLIUM SPLASH GORDON ARAC HP PRICE: $12.50 Dave Gordon's amazing selecting of this waxy leaved charmer with the fiddle shaped leaves now lavishly slashed and splashed with nacre cream. Definitely a show winner best displayed on a moss pole..

30700 PHILODENDRON BLACK CARDINAL [HYB] ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 8.00 Bamboo Nurseries self heading hybrid forming a wide dramatic waxy birdsnest habit of overlapping wide rippled leaves of burgundy flushed purple; violet petioles.. . still keeps some purple tones when grown in lower light conditions, but does tend to become scandent in lower light conditions..

33107 PHILODENDRON BURLE MARX (SPECIES)ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 18.00 Very dependable, semi upright vine with waxy outfacing elongated heart shaped leaves thickly set on thick sculptural stems typically dividing in a nearly monstrose knobby art noveau design. Tolerates house conditions well. Too much fun not to grow in your plant collection.

30370 PHILODENDRON CALKIN'S GOLD [HYB] ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 25.00 A large growing P. domesticum hybrid with rich golden-toned foliage striated green. Unusual, handsome scandant habit; easy plant for indoors as the boldly variegated leaves are thick and waxy, thus resisting the challenge of lower levels of humidity. Highly recommended on the Bling Bling scale.

30760 PHILODENDRON CANNIFOLIUM ARAC TGH PRICE: $22.00 SOLD OUT AT THIS TIME "Flask Philo" Slow growing epiphyte with leathery lance leaves jutting out from remarkable channeled swollen leafstalks, resembling pop bottles. Grown for its remarkable swollen petioles. What we call "self-header" because if is reluctant to vine, forming more of a rosette' the demands very bright light, good air movement, and a Cymbidium growing medium for perfect drainage for this is not a terrestial species. From South America, Guyana.
30714 PHILODENDRON CARAMEL CREAM [HYB?] ARAC TGH HP PRICE: $ 80.00 Glorious lime streaked golden leaved vigorous climber with the darkening leaves' blushed underside hardening to a very rich caramel red, heightened by the redish rose blushed petioles and trunk. Happiest on a mossed pole. Yinger's name--if you had not already guessed. We will start a cutting of this upon receiving your order and send it to you when it is established. We do not keep a stock of this ready in pots.

30302 PHILODENDRON CORSINIANUM [HYB] ARAC TGH PRICE: $ 60.00 Vigorous hybrid of P. lucidum with P. coriaceum. Strong stem supports wide elongate "elephant ear" waxy leaves with ruffled edges and decorative thick veins. Survives poor conditions once established. Propagated to order during the warmer months of the year, as we have no holding area here at the nursery large enough to accomodate this giant. We have been suprised at the popularity of this--and those who have received this realize that the price reflects the challenge our packers face in getting these porportions into a shipping box without serious foliar damage. This is THE philo for those of you who want to grow the big one.

30384 PHILODENDRON DAVIDSONII [TALMANCAE] ARAC TGH HP PRICE: $ 55.00 Impressive giant elongated heart leaves, often speckled and brushed with pale lime, highlighted by central lighter vein; held by maroon dotted petioles arranged in very short internodes, like those of P. Santa Leopoldina, on very thick strong stems. Petioles uniquely spotted mahogany! Rare but easily grown.

30361PHILODENDRON DOMESTICUM (HASTATUM) ARAC HP PRICE: $ 5.00 "Spade Leaf Philo" Long lobed leaves on rubbery rounded stems; reliable scrambling viner. Easy.

Several varieties of Philodendron. Click on Thumbnail see larger image!

30306 PHILODENDRON DOMESTICUM (HASTATUM) VARIEGATUM ARAC TGH PRICE: $ 38.00 "Variegated Spade Leaf" Showy fleshy arrow-shaped leaves splashed irreguarly with rich pale cream. Strong grower given high humidity and perfect drainage with a friendly moss pole to embrace. Variable. Our pictures show the ranges it can cover in striping, mottling, and other variations. This is very popular with Asian customers, resulting in shortages here, so please INQUIRE as to availability before ordering.

30307 PHILODENDRON ECUADORIENSE [HORT] PRICE: $40.00 "Accordian Philo" Long vertically held leaves are rippled and deeply veined like Anthurium veitchei. As the upper lobes are thin and erect; this rarity needs to be situated in a location with evenly high humidity to avoid burning. A merely spectacular plant best situated in the conservatory or mist garden. Numbers can be limited until late summer as this is very slow to increase. Absolutely not a houseplant.

30309 PHILODENDRON ELEGANS [DUBIUM] ARAC HP PRICE: $ 10.00 "Skeleton Aroid" Very deeply fingered fern-like foliage on strong but slow growing thickly meandering clambering stems. High light encourages the foliage to be more closely situated, although remains basically scandant in habit. Hortus lists this as P. angustisectum. The photos show the plant in different conditions at different stages of maturity.

30311 PHILODENDRON FENZLII ARAC HP PRICE: $ 7.50 Shiny trilobed leaves on vigorous vine from Mexico shown to advantage when encouraged to climb a mossed pole. Easily grown mimic of the Syngonium auritum complex. Enduringly popular for its ease of growth in less than ideal conditions.

30312 PHILODENDRON FLORIDA BEAUTY [HYB] ARAC HP PRICE: $15.00 (Sold often as P. squamiferum, but actually reported to be a hybrid of P. laciniatum and P. pedatum). Warty petioles stiftly present glossy shield-like leaves with opposite rounded upper lobes, blunt pointed central lobes and a single large lower lobe. Sound too elaborate? Try one to find out that this reliable compact vine is far easier to grow than to describe--especially dramatic when encouraged to clamber up a mossed pole, the best method for achieving stunning foliage.

30313 PHILODENDRON FLORIDA BEAUTY ALBA ARAC HP PRICE: $ 40.00 Shared with us by David Bernett in Australia years ago, we have started to propage it again. It is a form which produces new leaves that are frosted white, then to mottled milky green, which gradually fade to jade green--but realize that leaves emerging in high temperatures emerge as pale green, not white resulting in new foliage being a guacamole green in most of Texas. So: the plant displays modulating areas of color with pale new leaves contrasting with dark green mature foliage. The vine also seems to be more compact than the regular form and makes a wonderful sight clambering up a mossed pole. New leaves of ivory veined chartruse fade to deep striated green--much larger statured than `White Squamiferum' and not usually self-heading. Very rare, hard-to-locate cultivar.

30308 PHILODENDRON FLORIDA COMPACTA [HYB] ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 35.00 "Dwarf Shield Philo" Very short internodes of the stubby stems hold thick dark waxed leaves, deeply lobed. Excellent antique hybrid of extremely slow growth we have not offered for some time. Desirable form, for it is compact and holds mature foliage indefinitely. Will challenge the patience of all but the convicted collector.

31454 PHILODENDRON GIGANTEUM ARAC TGH HP PRICE: $ 8.75 Trinidad's "Jumbo Philo" with giant climbing trunk supporting beautifully lacquered ovate leaves with undulating margins; very closely bunched succulent petioles. The third image is of a variegated form of this wonderful plants, available from time to time on our specialty offerings.

30273 PHILODENDRON GLAUCAPHYLLUM ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 22.00 "Blue Philodendron" This extremely slow growing rarity is one of the standouts of the scandent Philodendrons. Aluminum silver to blue over a waxy undertoned flared arrow leaves anchored on folded petioles.

30318 PHILODENDRON GLORIOSUM ARAC GH PRICE: $15.00 A sinuous slowly creeping short surface rhizome anchors wide beautiful and silvery green velour-surfaced leaves that are veined in pink in good light. Slow growing Philodendron from Columbia, tolerating considerably higher temperatures than most Andean species. These are young plants but are nicely rooted and established. They will be offered at this bargin price until they become more fully grown.

30321 PHILODENDRON GRAZIELIAE ARAC TGH PRICE: $ 20.00 "Pigtail Philodendron" Very glossy compact lvs tightly stacked in ascending columns. concave hearts with a pigtail tip. Choice and not hard to grow but very slow growing. Newly reoffered from our stock here at Glasshouse Works.

58478 PHILODENDRON HASTATUM [HORT] FRIELING'S GOLD ARAC TGH PRICE: $ 30.00 A selection here at Glasshouse Works of a series of sports of P. domesticum hastatum variegatum which consistently produces pure lime gold leathery leaves with attractive lobe on slowly climbing stems perfect on moss poles. .

30324 PHILODENDRON HEDERACEUM [HOFFMANNII] ARAC GH PRICE: $ 5.00 Climber whose leaves mimic the "Algerian Ivy"--and thus the species name. Easy house plant with rubbery foliage able to survive lower humidity levels than most. While judicious pinching will produce a shrubby specimen, it is most successful when embracing a mossed pole or stiftly cascading from a pot. Proof that one can be pretty and "easy" simultaneously and not even command a high price.

56814 PHILODENDRON HOPE [HYB] ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 5.00 Ruffled rich green leaves with heavy substance perfect for any houseplant situation, forming a tight birdsnest shape as it is a compact selection of P. selloum--even with fingered leaf margins. "Tree Philodendron.".

30325 PHILODENDRON IMBE (ILSEMANII) VARIEGATUMARAC HP TGH $ 125.00 This is famous and almost never seen, slow groing Philodendron, sometimes called "imbe" and sometimes called "ilsemanii". Nomenclature shaky. INQUIRE as to availability.

30326 PHILODENDRON INCONCINNUM ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 10.00 Large boat-shaped decorative leaves, blushed beneath in high light; thick succulent midribs accent dull-glossy fleshy leaves overlapping shingle-like on a very thick stemmed clambering vine. Easy indoor potplant for mossed pole culture. Very seldom available in the trade.

30701 PHILODENDRON JOSE BUONO ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $35.00 Very dramatic 1' to 2' long leathery sheened leaves evenly splashed & mottled lime gold; shingled effect as leaves placed on very short internodes on rose-toned stems. 30333 PHILODENDRON MEXICANUM ARAC HP CGH PRICE: $ 20.00 Narrow leathery arrow leaves, with unequal basal lobes, are magenta to maroon beneath; very handsome slowly scandent species with small green spathes enclosing the ruby interior. Mexican species full of drama, soon forming an impressive show as it grows steadily and well, even in a regular house. Looks exotically difficult, while actually easily grown, especially if given a mossed pole to perform on.

31001 PHILODENDRON MOONLIGHT [HYB] ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 12.50 Very thick stem/trunk with succulently petioled leaves (at very short internodes) with wide boat-like outlines fabulously showcasing the deeply saturated lemon custard color tones, further decorated and supported with prominent pale swollen veins. St. Rose Nursery. Very bold "Birdsnest" type quite successful as a houseplant; very showy as a highlight in your hobby greenhouse (in which environment, of course, the brilliant waxy golds are most intense).

30327 PHILODENDRON NURSE NOODLES [MINI SPEARS] ARAC HP TGH PRICE: $ 18.00Almost stemless, forms a mop of glossy small lance leaves, maintaining a miniature stature. By far the most vigorous and least fussy of any miniature we have trialed. And such a cutie for the terrarium or warding case!

30350 PHILODENDRON ORNATUM [SODOROI] ARAC TERRARIUM TGH PRICE: $ 32.00 The large areas of silver overwhelm the bluish-green leaf margins; the raised underribs are rouged a delicate chablis--perfect on this thin substanced heart-shaped foliage. 31496 PHILODENDRON QUAIL GARDENS (SPECIES) ARAC TGH HP PRICE: $ 25.00 Congested contorted remarkably thwarterous succulent stems armed with thick winged petioles tipped with slim cookie cutter leaves. Offsetting and re-offsetting stubby fat stems eventually assume a decorative disheveled hemispherical outline. Makes Medusa's hair look tidy. Succulent enough to survive considerably dry atmospheres. Also quite popular with succulent collectors.

30336 PHILODENDRON SCANDENS [OXYCARDIUM] ARAC GH PRICE: $ 2.00 The most common "Vining Hearts" (sigh), but still very beautiful florists' favorite. This vine with its waxy erect heartshaped leaves is a basic in every dishgarden delivered by florists. Certainly as "common as dirt" according to one judgemental customer, yet it still makes a perfect hanging basket.

30337 PHILODENDRON SCANDENS AUREUM ARAC HP PRICE: $ 5.50 "Limeleaf Vine" Very showy chartreuse leaves create a glow of sunshine anywhere this is placed in your plant display; reliable sturdy plant equally at home in a pot or cascading dramatically from a hanging basket.

30600 PHILODENDRON SCANDENS MEDIO PICTUM PRICE: $ 5.50 "Flame Leaved Heart Plant" Each glossy leaf sports a showy creamy lime central slash sometimes with faint gray green featherings. Although versions of this have appeared since Hummel offered it thirty years ago, it still undergoes reincarnations in the wholesale trade, most currently reappearing brand new all over again as 'Brazil.' Ah, the marvels of marketing.

30334 PHILODENDRON SCANDENS MICANS ARAC HP PRICE: $ 5.75 "Velvet Hearts" This is a bronzy velvety toned heart leaved vine very popular as is adaptable to low light as well as imperfect humidity. Adds a rich tone to any combination.

30338 PHILODENDRON SCANDENS VARIEGATUM ARAC PRICE: $ 12.00 "Variegated Heartleaf Philo" Leaves streaked with grey green and cream. Very beautiful. More variegated in cool shaded environment--can become marbled lime in the intense heat of the south. Our original plant derived from the famous Hummel collection (in California) many years ago--and it is still as sought after today as it was twenty five years ago. At certain times of the year when this is shipped, this may not look as variegated as at other times usually because it has been propagated in a very warm greenhouse. It comes true; it has not reverted. You will just have to wait for new growth.

32102 PHILODENDRON SELLOUM [BIPINNATIFIDUM] ARAC HP PRICE: $ 4.50 Brazil's "Lacy Tree Philodendron" remains the most reliable of dramatic houseplants with large deeply lobed leathery leaves radiating from the thick succulent trunk sprouting curious aerial roots and greenish white flowers. While these are finger leaved seedlings now, by the time your grandchildren inherit this it will be an enormous elaborately deeply lobed specimen of considerable girth and the beginnings of a stout trunk. They will never forget you.

30352 PHILODENDRON VARIIFOLIUM (TRUE) ARAC HP TGH $ 15.00 Wavy thin leaves brushed pewter and honey-ash. Extremely choice and beautiful plant; introduced from Bolivia. The thin leaves render this a terrarium or wardian case candidate--a challenge as a houseplant because it does demand consistent humidity levels.

56800 PHILODENDRON XANADU PP7030 ARA HP TGH PRICE: $ 12.00 Elongated leathery leaves with many shallow rounded fingered lobes. Thickly overlaping dark leaves form a birdsnest shape rather than a clambering vine like P. elegans. A perfect houseplant.

33109 PHILODENDRON XANADU GOLDEN FORM ARA HP TGH PRICE: $25.00 Available now. Elongated leathery leaves with many shallow rounded fingered lobes like the hybrid above, however the new foliage emerges a bright golden color. 33119 PHILODENDRON ZENA (XANADU DWARF FORM) ARA HP TGH PRICE: $ 12.00 Elongated leathery leaves with many shallow rounded fingered lobes. Thickly overlaping dark leaves form a birdsnest shape rather than a clambering vine like P. elegans. This is a very compact form that would even work in larger terrariums and wardian cases.

See the photos!

11424 PHLEBODIUM AUREUM MANDIANUM POLYP HP TGH 18.00 Manda's "Crisped Blue Fern" still offered as Polypodium 'Mandianum' in the trade. This has become very rare and hard to find in the trade.
