Needs high humidity and very even temperatures so that a large terrarium would make the perfect home. Sold with PPAF tag. A highly promoted "rex" type which, while stunningly beautiful, constitutes a considerable challenge to growers not familiar with the "rex" tribe's demand for constant adequate humidity, perfect drainage in very fibrous mixes, and bright indirect lighting; as with most of this tribe, a mid summer and a mid winter "rest" is typical behavior with potential radical loss of foliage, soon replaced with a new flush of growth within a month or so. We emphatically do not recommend this challenging (though fabulously beautiful) Begonia as the first Begonia you have ever tried to grow!

Henry Ross was wise to resolve the confusion by declaring it to be the remarkable 'Bengal Tiger' it just is.

55657 COLEUS CANINUS LAB TGH HP PRICE: $ 4.00 "Canine Coleus" Odoriferous succulent leaves, slightly viscous, on tumbling thick stems; attractive curosity--but when leaves are crushed, beware the "Eau de Firehydrant" fragrance. We received this some years ago from Sydney Botanic Gardens via California's Quail Botanical Garden and are amused that this rather modest plant is now being aggressively marketed as the "Piss Off" or "Scardy Cat" plant reputed to keep cats (and even dogs) at bay. This does not work well here in our observations, but then, none of our cats seems particularly daunted by the canine tribe. Could be that the staff cats consider themselves to be feline rather than canine?

Bizarre fasciation of stems may look like pulled licorice; like kelp or something evolving (devolving?) under the sea. For those who see Coleus collecting as an adventure.

If the leaves develop any surface scars, this usually means that the ambient conditions are too humid or that the plant has been overwatered.

50513 CYANOTIS KEWENSIS COMM HP TGH PRICE: $ 4.25 Malabar native with compact, ground-hugging stems clasped by triangular fleshy leaves felted chocolate-brown; blue-violet flowers shy to bloom. Popular as the "Teddy Bear Plant" but exacting in its cultural demands: moving air with very bright light and low air humidity. The roots are very shallow, so avoid potting in a deep container--a great ground cover in a succulent dish garden.

Sent as very easily rooted URCuttings in dry moss. If you can kill this, you deserve a medal from the International Brotherhood of the Brown Thumb.
